Retreat Facilitation

Mr. Quinn also serves often as a “retreat facilitator” for a daily fee of approximately $500-$750 depending upon the length and location.

Fire Districts use retreats to revitalize the leadership performance in their organizations, to work out communications difficulties, for long-range strategic planning, and to defuse developing problems. Usually designed for small groups, including only the Board, the Chief, and key staff, such retreats or study sessions are held away from the district’s usual meeting place.

We believe it makes incredibly good sense to utilize Mr. Quinn’s services as retreat facilitator, especially because he is an attorney who specializes in the problems of fire districts. In those districts which are already his clients, as facilitator he also brings his particular knowledge of the district’s personnel and its issues.

Compared to the fees that professional facilitators or HR professionals often charge for such services in similar situations, we think you will find that this alternative is economical indeed. In fact, the daily retreat agenda may include not only the interactive discussion, but may also include some training or lecture on related topics.

For example, at past retreats Mr. Quinn has delivered his presentation and materials entitled “The Board and the CEO, Working Together”, which stimulates good discussion regarding “micromanagement” and related issues. Similarly, at one retreat Mr. Quinn spoke on “The Ten Cardinal Sins That Lead to Audit Findings,” a class that State Auditor Brian Sonntag told Mr. Quinn he would like to have his auditors attend!

Another well-received lecture was, “Ten Habits of Effective Managers,” which was part of a University Place Fire retreat.
